Enchanting Ella!
Ella is a key member of the English’s family, working front of house with us for nearly three years. We recently sat down with her to ask her a few questions so our customers can get to know her better. So, if you want to know what Ella’s most memorable experience at English’s is and where you’re likely to find her in ten years time, read on!
Where are you from and what did you study?
I was born in Brighton and have lived here my entire life. I went to school in Lewes and then went on to College in Horsham to study Sport and Exercise Science. At this time I was working as a chef in a pub where my passion for hospitality began. After college I decided to study for a Diploma in Event Management.
What drew you to working at English’s?
At the time, I was looking for a change in job to get more experience in the front of house setting. Having seen the waiters and waitresses dressed in their uniforms outside the restaurant looking very professional, I thought English’s looked like a great place to learn how to be a great waitress!
What is your favourite part of the job? Any memorable moments?
My favourite part of the job has to be the great loyal customers we have. Hearing stories about their memories at English’s and even their parents and grandparents’ memories at English’s warms my heart. I love working outside on the terrace in the Summer as well, it provides a refreshing change of scenery, it boosts my mood a lot. I have lots of memorable moments, meeting celebrities is always fun! Being on a South Korean television show where I served a group of Korean celebrities was definitely memorable, I’ve never seen so many cameras!
What are your plans for the future?
I want to grow in my role working within hospitality and eventually get a role in event planning, ideally in weddings. At English’s we love hosting weddings, corporate events, and private parties, and I enjoy being a part of these events. I plan to do another Diploma online, this time in wedding planning, whilst I continue working at English’s to get as much experience as I can.
And finally, how do you eat your oysters – raw, cooked, or in a shot?
Raw for me! Although I do love the crispy battered oysters or a spicy bloody Mary shot too.
