English’s Nominated for Three BRAVO Awards 2026
We’re delighted to share that English’s of Brighton has been nominated in three categories at this year’s BRAVO Awards: Best Brighton and Hove Restaurant, Best Team, and Best Wine List.
Being recognised alongside so many brilliant independent businesses in the city means a great deal to us. As Brighton’s oldest seafood restaurant and original oyster bar, English’s has been part of the city’s dining scene for over 150 years, and family-owned for more than 80 of them.
Best Brighton and Hove Restaurant
From first dates to anniversaries, celebrations to quiet lunches, we’re proud to have been part of so many Brighton stories over the decades. Whether guests join us for oysters at the bar, a relaxed lunch, or a special occasion, our aim has always been simple: warm hospitality, classic dishes, and memorable experiences.
Best Team
At the heart of everything we do is our team. From head shucker Jonathan, to owner Simon, restaurant manager Nick, and every member of our front of house and kitchen teams, English’s really is a family. It’s not uncommon for people to spend much of their careers here, and we’re incredibly proud of that. Recently, we said a fond farewell to Antonio after 23 wonderful years with us.
And it’s not just those inside the building. Our long-standing suppliers, flower tenders, window cleaners, and behind-the-scenes partners are all part of the English’s story too. You’ve helped shape what we are today.
Best Wine List
Our wine list features over 100 bottles, including 22 English wines from 10 different vineyards, and reflects Simon’s lifelong passion for wine, as well as the growing curiosity of our guests. We hold regular staff tastings and keep the list evolving, so our team can confidently recommend wines that pair beautifully with your meal. From Sussex vineyards to classic international regions, it’s a part of our offering we love sharing.
Thank You
If you’ve ever dined with us, celebrated with us, or simply enjoyed a glass of wine at the bar, thank you.
