Passione Vino! New Italian wines on the menu at English’s
English’s has one of the most extensive and admired wine lists of any restaurant in Brighton and Hove, with over 100 wines represented from around the world.
We recently held a wine tasting of the finest Italian wines on our refreshed spring 2023 wine list presented by our supplier, the independent wine importers, Passione Vino.
On a fine spring day on the terrace, we welcomed Passione Vino’s Italian wine aficionado, Matteo Malquori, to English’s where he presented these incredible new wines to the team for tasting – which is definitely one of the perks of working at English’s!
Here are a few highlights along with staff notes from the day:
Il Bianco – Vermentino IGT, Il Torchio, Colli di Luni, Liguria (Skin Contact), described in our staff notes as having ‘notes of grapefruit, floral, tasting salty and saline, pairs well with ‘meaty’ seafood such as monkfish’ – white wine available by the bottle £45
Corvina Veronese – IGT Antolini, Marano di Valpolicella, Veneto Glass – staff notes describe this wine as ’20% of the grape is dried for extra complexity. Light red in colour, notes of cherry, strawberry, plums, round and rich and smooth’ – red wine £9.35 Glass (17.5 cl): £11.00 Carafe (50 cl): £29.25 Bottle £39.00
Lugana DOC, Ca’ Lojera, Veneto – described in staff notes as ‘soft, round, similar to riesling, elegant, tropical, paired with something meaty or spicy – crab, oysters, tuna, cold platter, scallops’ – white wine, bottle (75 cl): £43.00
